Which weather condition is more dangerous for rabbits?

Hot weather poses significant risks for rabbits primarily due to their sensitive physiology. Rabbits are prone to heat stress because they do not sweat; they rely on other methods to regulate their body temperature. When temperatures rise, their ability to maintain a comfortable internal temperature can diminish rapidly, leading to heatstroke, which is potentially fatal.

In hot conditions, rabbits may also experience dehydration if they do not have ample access to fresh water. They need to be in a well-ventilated area to help dissipate heat; otherwise, they can become lethargic and exhibit signs of distress. Providing shade and keeping them cool is crucial in preventing these health issues.

In contrast, while cold weather does pose challenges, rabbits have fur that provides insulation, and they can adapt more readily to lower temperatures. As long as they have proper shelter and bedding, they can manage cold conditions better than extreme heat. Mild and rainy weather generally does not pose significant threats to rabbits, provided they have a place to stay dry and warm.
