How does a rabbit regulate its temperature?

Rabbits primarily regulate their body temperature through their ears. The large, vascularized surface area of a rabbit's ears allows for efficient heat dissipation. As blood circulates through the ears, the warmth is transferred to the environment, effectively cooling the rabbit as needed. This mechanism becomes particularly important for rabbits, which can struggle with overheating in warm climates or during exercise.

While other body parts can contribute to temperature regulation to some extent, such as paws having some capability to dissipate heat, they are not as effective as the ears. The fur does provide insulation, helping to maintain body temperature and protect against cold, but it does not facilitate cooling in the same way.
